Construction Update: Digging our way into spring

Retention pond on site with some ice on it against a bright blue sky.

Dedicated workers pour concrete for footings.

Concrete footings dry in the spring air.

Heavy equipment drills piers for the building foundation.

The ground is thawing so we started digging! As spring approaches, construction is full speed ahead for our new animal care facility at the corner of Raymond and Emerson.

What’s happening now?

We’ve excavated a retention pond so we can use the fill materials to help raise the building pad (no waste around here!) Soil stabilization is done and we’re actively drilling piers to support the building foundation. You can see some of them in the photos above. Trenches were excavated around the building perimeter and reinforced steel was installed for the footings.

To make all of this happen, we poured 100 yards of concrete every day for four days!

What’s next?

Very soon we’ll install mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (all very important pieces for an animal facility, of course). Next, you’ll start to see interior walls being installed and concrete being poured for the slab. After that, pre-cast concrete walls will arrive on site in April along with steel columns.

Stay tuned for your next update in April!
