The Journey Home

The Journey Home:

A New Shelter for IACS

It’s a new day for animals in Indianapolis and the people who love them. Because Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) is getting a brand-new, state-of-the-art home!

This new shelter is sorely needed. IACS’s current shelter is more than 30 years old. It’s outdated and cramped—built for a time when most animals were held for a couple of days before being put down—and unequipped to meet our community’s compassionate goals for animal welfare.

To date, The Journey Home capital campaign, Friends $7million initiative to support the new shelter being built by the City of Indianapolis, has exceeded its goal. Over 300 individuals, foundations, and corporations helped make this possible.

If you want to be a part of this city-wide effort to build a state-of-the art animal welfare center, please send us our gift. The need is always great, and your dollars will be used for the long over-due home for our city’s abused, neglected, and abandoned animals.

Rendering is subject to change

The new IACS shelter will be located at 5001 E. Raymond Street. Ground was broken at the site in June. It will do more than simply hold homeless animals. It will improve the health and well-being of not only animals who temporarily reside there, but also the staff and volunteers who care for them, with:

  • Vastly improved living conditions that prioritize natural light, good ventilation, noise reduction, and access to outdoor space.
  • Vital medical care resources for animals, including a much-needed medical/surgical suite.
  • More space—over 60,000 square feet, more than double the size of the existing shelter.
  • Natural light, noise reduction, and access to outdoor space.
  • A dog park that’s open to the public.

It’s the shelter Indy’s animals—and citizens—deserve.
